Ghost Chaser
By John L. Peyton
Primitive people worry a lot about ghosts. In Afghanistan they still put cages on the roof to trap them. They don’t catch many but at least it keeps them from getting into the house. The Ojibwe used to carve posts like this one to scare ghosts away. They attached human hair to the head and put in clam shells for the eyes and these images worked. The families who set them up very seldom had any serious ghost problems.
